Giving Back After Your Scholarship

How alumni multiply the impact of a scholarship by mentoring the next generation of students.

Alumni as mentors

Some of our most powerful volunteers are former scholarship recipients. They know exactly what current students are experiencing, and their presence is proof that the work is worth doing.

A mentor who has walked the same road offers something a well-meaning stranger cannot: credibility. Students believe alumni when they say it is possible.

Ways to give back

Alumni give back by mentoring, speaking at workshops, reviewing applications, funding scholarships in their own names, and simply staying in touch. If you graduated with the help of a scholarship, please consider what you can do to help the next student walk the same road.

You do not need to have made it big to give back. Sharing your story, answering a text, or writing a recommendation letter can be as valuable as a financial gift.

Start where you are

Do not wait for the perfect moment or the perfect amount. Reach out to one student, respond to one email, or make one small gift. Giving back is a practice, not a milestone.

Support the next student

Your gift funds scholarships, books, and mentoring for East Mississippi students.
